Text Alerts/Facebook/Website.

Text @e7hdg4 to 81010 to get Burke PTO’s text alerts.  This will allow us to immediately notify you if there is an event cancelation, change of school arrival/dismissal procedure, or even remind you of an upcoming event.

If you haven’t done so, please friend Burke PTO on Facebook.  There are also separate groups for each grade level to further aid in communication.  This is a great way to get information such as spelling words, homework, and answer other questions or concerns directly with other parents from your student’s grade/class.  Please be courteous when posting to these pages, and refrain from negative posts.  Please note, any questionable posts will be deleted immediately.  Please see the social media policy for more information.  For privacy reasons, these pages are secret. If you would like to be added to a group, please email burkepto@gmail.com with your child’s name and teacher.

We also have a website: www.burkepto.com.  You can find event dates, download PTO flyers, and get contact information.  Please contact Beth Horwitz atbhorwitz21@gmail.com if you would like to add something to our website.

We have received email addresses for most parents, but if you know of anyone not receiving these emails, please let us know.

Tiger Tales.  This newsletter showcases special events and announcements along with any special achievements of our students.  If you have anything you would like to see in the newsletter, please contact Tanya Vynorius at tanya1bill@comcast.net. It is also available on our website.

Fundraising:

Bay State Textiles:  Peabody Public Schools have partnered with Bay State Textiles Ongoing Textile Recycling Fundraiser.  This is the white container located outside by the entrance to the school.  They accept many items in clean and dry condition to recycle.   Please note, these items are being recycled, not being donated to individuals. It is a way to help the environment and save on disposal fees.   Our PTO will receive $100 per ton.  For more information, please go to www.baystatetextiles.com.

Amazon Smile:  If you purchase any items from Amazon (including Amazon Prime), please go to www.smile.amazon.com to select John E. Burke Elementary School PTO from the drop down menu. For every purchase the Burke PTO will receive 0.5% of your purchase as a donation. We will receive checks for every $500 donated.  All proceeds directly benefit Burke PTO.

Box Tops: The “New” Box Tops collection center is completed!  As of November 1, 2016, students, teachers, parents, and faculty can participate in this contest. The classroom that brings in the most Box Tops will win money to spend at the school store AND one lucky child, who brings in the most, will win money for the school store as well.  Last year the the students raised over $750.00 for our school. Our hope with this contest, is to raise over $1000.

Grab a baggie and place a piece of paper inside with your child’s name, classroom name and number of Box Tops included. Fifty (50) is the maximum per bag and any child can have multiple bags. (50 per bag is Box Tops requirement. Anything more will have to be sorted – which is time consuming.) So save your unexpired Box Tops! They are very strict and do not take expired Box Tops. Anything dated before March 1, 2017 should be submitted now!  Box tops only let you submit them twice per year.  If you have any questions contact Tanya Vynorius at Tanya1bill@comcast.net.  Thank you in advance!

Volunteers:  We are still looking for volunteers to help out with the Talent Show (June 2), Candy Bar Bingo (January 27) and the NEW Family Movie Night (February 10th). If you are interested, please email burkepto@gmail.com.  The more, the merrier!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or suggestions.

Thanks,

Suzanne V. Slater
